How to Roast Peanuts
Roasted peanuts are as American as apple pie, ice cream and baseball - and they're good for you, too! In fact, one serving of roasted peanuts is packed full of protein and vitamins and minerals such as manganese, copper, and niacin. Raw peanuts are healthiest when dry roasted with very little or no salt. On the other hand, they can be high in sodium and saturated fat if cooked in oil.
Have you ever tried to roast peanuts yourself? If you've always wanted to make roasted peanuts at home, you can follow this simple step-by-step guide after gathering together the following ingredients and tools:
- Raw peanuts, shelled or unshelled
- Paper towel
- Rimmed cookie sheet
- Spatula
- Salt
Step 1
To start, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Deshell the raw peanuts and then give them a good washing under cool, running tap water. Next, place them on a paper towel and use another paper towel to pat them dry.
Step 2
Using a non-greased cookie sheet, place the raw peanuts in one layer on one or more pans.
Step 3
Put the cookie sheets into the oven and let them roast for 15 minutes. Turn the cookie sheet around and stir the nuts. Let them roast another 15 minutes. For shelled peanuts, the total roasting time is 15 minutes.
Step 4
Remove the cookie sheets from the oven. Add salt. Let them cool.
